The Apple Watch Series 7 might not be a massive update from the previous generation model, but there are lots of cool new features.

The Apple Watch Series 7 builds on the many Apple Watch models that came before it with plenty of enticing new features and functions. Along with a revamped look that includes softer, more rounded edges and new features with watchOS 8 (which is compatible with some older-model Apple Watches as well), the Apple Watch Series 7 has plenty that makes it unique.

Whether the Watch is being used to keep on top of everyday appointments, monitor progress towards fitness goals, or even a bit of both, the Apple Watch Series 7 has turned heads among Apple iPhone owners who love the latest companion wearable.

The Apple Watch Series 7 comes in five new all-aluminum colors that help wearers express their personalities. These include green, blue, starlight, midnight, and special edition PRODUCT (RED), which donates proceeds of each purchase to fight HIV/AIDS.

These base colors can, of course, be combined with a variety of optional bands for the Apple Watch Series 7, which come in all kinds of colors, materials, and styles, from sporty to stylish and even designer. While it's a minor upgrade that has nothing to do with how the Watch functions, it's important since the Watch will be worn almost 24/7 and needs to suit a person's personality and style.

The larger face on the Watch includes 20 percent more screen than the previous generation model without adding any more bulk: the borders, instead, were reduced by 40 percent. This also allows virtual buttons when using apps like the calculator to be more easily depressed since they, too, are larger.

As an Always-On Retina display, it remains lit up all day without wearers having to raise a wrist or tap the screen so pertinent information is always in view. It's also 70 percent brighter when the wrist is down for more easily seeing incoming notifications, the time, and progress towards daily fitness goals. This alone might make it worth upgrading from the Apple Watch Series 6 to the Series 7.

While wearers can still use their voice and Siri to dictate messages, the Apple Watch Series 7 also includes a new QWERTY keyboard, which can be used to tap or slide from one letter to the next to type via QuickPath.

Machine learning works like predictive text, guessing what is being composed to help you form messages quickly and easily, right from the wrist. Scribble, meanwhile, makes it easy to write letters on the screen for composing a text message or e-mail.

The Apple Watch Series 7 is most durable Apple Watch to date. It is crack-resistant using strong crystal, dust-resistant thanks to the IPX6 certification, and water-resistant with a WR50 rating that means wearers can swim with one in shallow water, like in a pool or ocean (though, as with any waterproof electronic device, be mindful of chlorine and salt water.)

The front crystal is 50 percent thicker than the Series 6 model while it also has a flat base that makes it sturdier and more resistant to cracking.

There are more health insights with the Apple Watch Series 7. Among these is the ability to measure blood oxygen level via a new sensor and the partner app. Take on-demand readings and keep a log to see how the body absorbs oxygen and how much oxygen is delivered to the body.

There's also the ability to take an ECG test at any time using the app, which can help detect slow, fast, or normal heart rhythms. Also, keep track of detailed sleep insights, set bedtime routines, and create schedules. Add these to the list of all the awesome things many people don't realize an Apple Watch can do.

While the Apple Watch Series 7 still does not include a battery that can last for more than a day, it does charge up more quickly than previous-generation models. Using a USB-C cable, it can charge to 80 percent from 0 percent in about 45 minutes. This is up to 33 percent faster than the Series 6 model.

For those who value sleep tracking and don’t want to miss out on that data by recharging overnight, it only takes eight minutes of charging time to get eight hours of sleep tracking. This can easily be achieved with a quick recharge while getting ready for bed, then slipping the watch back on before tucking in for the night.

While the new workouts are available for other compatible Apple Watches as well, the Apple Watch Series 7 was introduced in conjunction with new ones, like Tai Chi and Pilates. But the most significant upgrade with this model is the features geared towards cycling.

The Watch can automatically detect once a cycler begins pedaling and can even contact emergency services if it senses a fall off a bicycle. Voice feedback announces milestones and data, like speed and distance so riders never have to glance over at the watch, remaining focused on the road or trail. There's even an algorithm that can calculate calories when riding e-bikes.

The watch is made using more recycled content than any other model in the line-up, which is one more thing that backs up the fact that the Apple Watch Series 7 is not a boring upgrade, as some have criticized it as being. It features 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all the magnets, nearly 100 percent recycled tungsten, and the aluminum models are made from 100% recycled materials in the casing.

As with other Apple Watches, the Series 7 does not contain any harmful chemicals, like mercury PVC, beryllium, or BFRs either, making it a Watch that keeps the environment in mind.
